Hi Simon. I am about to purchase a property on Cathedral Road and the home buyer survey advised to have the wiring checked. What does this involve and how much will it cost?
Hi. You could ask the seller for any certification. If they don’t have any, or there is no proof of the electrical installation being inspected then it would be wise to have a full electrical inspection (also known as EICR).
I would like some extra sockets installed in my flat opposite Llandaff fields but don’t want any wiring on show. Is this something you can quote for?
Yes, wiring can be chased inside the walls but will need redecorating afterwards. Although the wall chasers electricians use cut through the wall relatively easily, sometimes the plaster and backing coat can become disturbed causing more work than expected in older buildings in that area.
My neighbour has just made other tenants aware of an electrical issue in our flats by Sophia Gardens. The communal lighting is powered by each flat (closest to the light fitting). Flat 2 had an electrical problem and that part of the staircase was in complete darkness whilst the fault was being investigated. Can you offer any advice?
Some apartments in older areas of Cardiff were adapted from houses and never fitted with a Landlord’s electricity supply. It would be best to get advice from Western Power – to see if a new supply is possible. If so, all new communal wiring and light fittings would connect to this.
