Q. Dear Simon Portillo. I found you on the NICEIC website as the closest electrician to my new home address. I’m about to purchase a house on Waterhall Road currently on sale with Fortis in Fairwater Green and looking for electricians who could attend at short notice to let me know what they think of the wiring. Is this something you can help with? Thank you, Ann
A. Hi Ann. Yes, that is something i can do for you. I offer a visual inspection (to get a very rough idea about the installation) and a full electrical inspection and testing service in Cardiff throughout the week and weekend.
Q. I have recently moved into a house in Wellright Road and would like an outdoor socket installed. Is this a lot of work? Any idea of how much it would cost?
A. I would need to call in and take a look. I live less than a mile from you so can call in any evening this week between 6 and 7pm to take a look and give you an idea of what is involved and the cost.
Q. My utility supplier told me I need a main bonding safety electrical connection on the gas main. Is this something you can do, or is it a job for a plumber or heating engineer?
A. Yes, that is something an electrician would carry out for you. It involves installing a cable where the gas main enters your property to the main earth terminal (where the consumer unit is located). I would need to call in to take a look so i can provide a price to complete that for you.
Q. Hello Simon. My landing light has suddenly stopped working in my house on Norbury Road . I thought it was the lamp, but i have swapped it for a new one and it still doesn’t work. How soon could you call in and look at it? Thanks
A. Hello. I can call in to see you this evening between 6 and 7pm. If it’s something straightforward, i can fix it then. If not, i can arrange when is convenient to call back. Thanks Simon
Q. I live in St Fagans Road and looking for local electricians advice and costs for my kitchen and garage. I will be there at 9am this Saturday if that is convenient for you? Thank you.
A. Yes, this Saturday at 9am is fine. Please provide your house number and i will see you then. Thanks Simon
Q. Hi Simon. We randomly lose power in the kitchen sockets. At first, I thought it was the toaster although I have replaced that. I work with electricians and one has had a quick look although there was no fault found at the time he looked at it. There doesn’t seem to be any pattern to it. When could you call in to take a look? I live on Bwlch Road.
A. Hi. It could be a faulty appliance causing the rcd to disconnect on you. My rcd tripping troubleshooting article might help locate the problem although i am happy to call in one afternoon this week – whenever is convenient for you. Just let me know your house number.
Q.Good morning. I have just moved around the corner from you in Keyston Road and would like to check the electrics are up-to-date before decorating and having new flooring fitted. Is this something you could do within the next week? Thanks
A. Hi. Yes, i can certainly help with that. You are very wise to get the electrics inspected before spending money on decorating and flooring! Would this Thursday at 830 am be convenient to call in and take a look for you? Thanks Simon Portillo
